Board of Directors

Ashley Montgomery - Chair

Ashley is a native of Prince George’s County and graduated from Bowie State University with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration.  Throughout his childhood, Ashley loved football but experienced adversity in his household. After much persistence, him mother took him up to the local Bowie Boys and Girls Club to connect with Coach Sonny Kimball.  It was this relationship that became the most impactful in Ashley's life. Sonny picked up Ashley for practice over the next three years to assist his single mom. The consistent sacrifice of Coach Sonny is what laid the groundwork and provided the spirit with which Mentoring Through Athletics was founded:  The commitment to serving student-athletes by showing up as more than a coach but as a mentor, too.  Since the inception of the organization, Ashley has desired to impact lives on and off the field of athletic play, and he encourages his mentor-coaches to do the same.

Diane Tidwell - Vice Chair & Secretary

Diane has worked for Prince George's County Public School for more than 25 years, with a focus on technology. She has also been involved with Mentoring Through Athletics since its first year of programming. She is passionate about watching the scholars grow and become lifelong learners in the community. Diane believes that through their participation in MTA programs, the students show a side of themselves they do not show in school.  When not working or attending MTA events, Diane enjoys time with family and friends.

Alfred McMurray, Jr - Treasurer

Alfred has lived his entire life in the Greater Washington region. He went to high school in Prince George's County before enrolling at the University of Maryland, College Park, where he received a Bachelor’s of Science in Accounting. Since his matriculation, he has worked as a financial analyst. Alfred is an avid sports fan and is excited about giving back.

Weslie Young

Weslie Young, born and raised in Prince George’s County, Maryland, is a dedicated professional and former student-athlete. Weslie attended Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria, Virginia, for the first two years of high school before transferring to St. Vincent Pallotti High School, where she graduated as a student-athlete. At St. Vincent Pallotti, Weslie excelled in basketball and also competed on Track and Field team. She continued her athletic and academic journey at North Carolina Wesleyan College, now North Carolina Wesleyan University, where she played on the women’s basketball team. During her time there, Weslie earned the Scholar Athlete of the Year award for three consecutive years and earned the Sportsmanship Award her senior year, all while graduating cum laude with a degree in sociology and a minor in sports administration in 2019. She currently works as a Legal Administrative Specialist in Retirement Claims for the Office of Personnel Management and also manages NFL Defensive End,  Chase Young for the New Orleans Saints. In connection to the MTA community, Weslie is passionate about inspiring young athletes to pursue greatness through confidence, hard work, and dedication. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, working out, and cooking.

Heather A. Hart

Heather is a native from Prince Georges County and takes pride in raising her family there as

well. She graduated from the University of Maryland College with a Bachelors of Arts, in

Political Science and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. Heather has worked in the

Human Resources industry for over 20 years, where she currently serves in as a Vice President

of Human Resources.

Over the years Heather has worked with several youth athletic associations in capacity of team

mom, team manager, and board member. She has seen and experienced how athletics can

shape and positively impact kids. She hopes to continue to be that positive impact though her

work at Mentoring Through Athletics.
